Edna Purviance Walk of Fame - French and Portuguese Page

To continue to help the "Edna Purviance is a Star" and "Death to Talkies" Facebook group Edna Purviance Walk of Fame Signature Drive project, ednapurviance.org has created three Walk of Fame pages on Edna's site to help spread the word to the world.

With the great help of Dominique Dugros and Daniele Rodrigues, we how have this page in three languages. Dominique created the French and Daniele has created the Portuguese page.

FRENCH | PORTUGUESE | ENGLISH

Special thanks to Daniele and Dominique for their quick and enthusiastic help. UPDATE: I have added a comment section on the bottom of the ENGLISH page to share with other Edna fans.

Special Thanks to Cinecon

We like to send our special thanks to everyone at Cinecon for the very nice special announcement for Edna's video event on their site! We are looking forward to the trip and hope to see Edna's fans there!

At this time, we are planning a special announcement about one of our projects at the event. This same announcement will be coming to Edna's site very soon afterwards...

Also, a new story about Edna and Charlie will appear on Edna's site soon! It is one I planned to launch in January 2005.

It was something I stumbled onto a few years ago, during my Edna research. I will be revealing a part from that research in the video for the first time. I will have Part One of the story behind it on Edna's site shorty after the video event... Thanks for visiting!

John Squire - Edna Purviance's husband

I have placed a mini bio on John Squire on Edna's site. Lita Hill will be talking more about Jack in the coming video. Much more will be in the biography we are working on about Edna Purviance.

UPDATE January 2007: Jack and Edna's Personal Films. These discovered films document Jack's travels as a pilot with Pan American Airlines from the late 1920s before meeting Edna Purviance, to the early 1940s with footage of Edna and Jack at their South America home.

Behind the Scenes - Now Showing...

What you WON'T see at CINECON is this BEHIND THE SCENES
look filmed by Brent Turner of BLT Productions of Lita Hill and Linda Wada during the taping of the Lita Hill Interview. Brent filmed us during the actual taping of Lita's interview (filmed by wadaworks) and a glimpse at the collection.

The Quicktime video is a mini look at 4 1/2 minutes long. While best on cable modem, it was saved at high quality for broadband and cable modems. It needs Quicktime Player 7. There are links to download the free players if you don't have the current version. On the page there is a START only control to begin the video from the beginning.

None of this footage will be seen at Cinecon. It was edited by Linda Wada from Mr. Turner's video for ednapurviance.org visitors to enjoy. We hope you might enjoy this mini peek at ednapurviance.org... Link is at the bottom of the LITA HILL page.

Latest Grand View Cemetery Article

Saturday, August 12, dozens of Glendale residents visited the locked gate at Grand View Cemetery. They were gathering signatures for a letter to sent to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to voice their interest in re-opening the cemetery for visitors. Meanwhile, the city is working on a plan to limited access. Liability is one of the main problems in working out a solution.

UPDATE AUGUST 24th - Latest report, there is a 99% chance of Grand View Cemetery being open for four hours on Sunday afternoons (12-4pm) starting August 27th. The mausoleums and buildings will be close (so seeing Edna's site is impossible, even with this opening.)

Also, Forrest Lawn sounds like they have no interest in taking over the cemetery because of the poor recordkeeping and no other cemetery operator would either, in their words.

So the future is in question for Grand View. Also, anyone interested in removing a love one from the cemetery, is impossible at this time. Due to no liabiliy insurance on the property, no business of any kind can be done, until an owner is in place. LINK TO STORY

More about Grand View Cemetery

UPDATE OCT. 2nd: This LA news story talks about trying to open Grand View for more hours and days. (Note: I did not delete the other links, but the stories on the Glendale Press site do go offline after 14 days. You can subscribe to their archives, if you wish.)

AUGUST 18th - Grand View Maybe Open for limited visits SOON! Grand View Cemetery maybe open for limited visits starting as soon as Sunday, August 27th. Link to August 17th story.

Here are a couple of new stories about Grand View. The first one concerns the city of Glendale looking into how they can try to open the cemetery for visitors. (LINK)

The second story comes from the mailbag from a local resident who lives by the cemetery and their story about the person who scaled the walls to get inside see their family gravesites. (LINK)

They are also taken in ideas to help come up with a solution to the problem. The fear is, the cemetery could be razed for property development, if no buyer can be found to run the operation.

NOTE: The stories from the newspaper go off line after 14 days. Check Glendale News Press website and search for Grand View Cemetery for the latest article.

Page from Charlie Chaplin's Past - MH Part 1

Part One of Six Parts...
August 3, 1920 - During Mildred's visit to New York

Mildred Harris Chaplin, who is stopping at a local hotel, denied today that she brought suit for divorce from her famous husband, Charles Chaplin, moving picture comedian. "I have signed no papers for divorce action", she stated. "I simply instructed my attorneys to bring suit for separation."

Mrs. Chaplin spoke very highly of her husband.

"There was no particular trouble," she said. "We just couldn't get along." My husband was not made for marriage. He is a man who should devote all his time to work. He is so nervous and irritable when working on a new picture that it is impossible to get along with him. He is a wonderful man, brilliant, but erratic."

Page from Chaplin's Past

During the marriage of Charlie Chaplin and Lita Grey Chaplin, a party was held at Chaplin's house in Beverly Hills. Mrs. Chaplin decided to have an unplanned party on her own and invited her friends to her home. Chaplin walked in on the party, and to kindly say it, was not pleased. One of the guest was Baron and Baroness De Precourt, who would not talk about the evening in late 1926...

Baron in S.F. Refuses to Tell of Chaplin Party - San Francisco, December 4, 1926
Still refusing to discuss details of the party they attended which split the Charles Chaplin household, the Baron and Baroness De Precourt left San Francisco today for the east.

"I can say nothing about it," the baron emphasized. "We were guests of Mrs. Chaplin and were entertained in her home. Certainly no gentleman can discuss what occurs in the residence of his hostess".

The Baron did deny that it was a "wild party".

Asked if intoxicants were served, he said: "Why, this is a dry country. What could we have had to drink under such conditions?"

"No, I cannot discuss Chaplin's attitude, either. Perhaps, he was nervous."

Edna Note: Edna grew-up with parties at her home in Nevada as her mother and sisters loved social events. At Edna's LA home, parties with friends and family were common and some were unplanned. Just one of the differences between Edna and Charlie.
