Dan Kamin's Charlie Chaplin at the Symphony

Charlie Chaplin at the Symphony
featuring Dan Kamin
Check out Kamin's website for future performances.

About Dan Kamin:
"Dan Kamin performs worldwide for theatres, colleges and symphony orchestras. On film, he created the physical comedy sequences for Chaplin and Benny and Joon, and trained Robert Downey, Jr. and Johnny Depp for their acclaimed starring performances.

It was Charlie Chaplin who introduced Dan to Hollywood. When Dan's book Charlie Chaplin's One-Man Show came out in 1984, Hollywood sat up and took notice. The book not only earned Dan the job of training Downey, but also of creating the film's comedy scenes in Chaplin's style. Downey said "Dan's insights are amazing. He's probably the foremost authority on Chaplin...there was really no scene that he didn't help me with." "

Update on Krypton Imagination Inc.

"The project didn't come off and the investors lost their money..." - Montreal Gazette

An update from the Montreal Gazette that includes Kryton Imagination. (Kryton is connected with Discover Chaplin.) Link to October 23, 2008 article>

"Quebec's financial watchdog has laid 331 charges under the Securities Act against six individuals and two companies accused of offering illegal investments to the public, including in a business to sell Charlie Chaplin-themed products around the world...

The AMF has charged Pierre Verreault, François Ledoux, Jacques Allard, William Thompson, Jacques Lévis and Carmel Yargeau. Also charged are Groupe Krypton Inc. and Krypton Imagination Inc.

At a lavishly catered 2004 press conference to announce the Chaplin-licensing deal, Krypton officials said the company would market a "refreshed Charlie Chaplin persona," first through a line of interactive games for wireless phones and then in a "Shrek-style animated Charlie Chaplin movie," The Gazette reported at the time.

Verreault, described as a chemical engineer who had morphed into an international development expert, said the company planned to make the Little Tramp an icon of the new millennium and added that Krypton was in line for "a really big payback."

Verreault said he had met the Chaplin family through a project he had worked on linked to the Charlie Chaplin museum in Switzerland.

"The project didn't come off and the investors lost their money," Théberge said." - Montreal Gazette, October 23, 2008

NOTE FROM 2005: Krypton Imagination Inc. was founded in 2004 by Pierre Verreault, an expert in e-commerce and international development, and by Jean David, known for his contribution to the success of Cirque du Soleil. BUSINESS PLAN: Krypton will entirely focus on boosting Charlie Chaplin’s image in the 21st century.

Discover Chaplin and www.kryptonimagination.com sites have been basically off line updating, with Discover 'updating' since January 2008.

The Sea Gull available for Interlibrary Loan

The Sea Gull is now available at the Springfield Public Library, in Springfield, Oregon. You can search for it under their Library Catalog. If you like to see this book, you can place an interlibrary loan for the book at your local library. Ask your local library for details and direct them to the Springfield Public Library in Springfield, Oregon website.

Update: On another site today, I had the same person from a silent film group connected with Essanay Crew (that's what they said) complaining about the book price, again.

While they seem to be very interested in the book, to keep coming back, their continued complains will not bring the price lower, because I don't believe in running any business in the red to please some bargain hunters. But if this person is really interested and very hard up for money, they now can interlibrary loan the book.

As for the book being any other form? We have no plans of ever doing that.

And, again, as always, only buy things you can afford and REALLY want. And never get into debt, if at all possible!

UPDATE: We have been awaiting word from our printer on a new price increase which will arrive any day.

Update: On January 1 (or when current stock runs out), the price of The Sea Gull will go up to $49 to cover all the new printing cost, shipping and packaging material cost increases.

La Naissance De Charlot #19

Thierry Georges Mathieu, La Naissance De Charlot #19, is now available. Check out Chaplin at Keystone for details. (Also, with the exchange rate falling, it makes it a good time to purchase.)

"LA NAISSANCE DE CHARLOT - Keystone 1914" is a semi-annual review which focuses on the study of Charlie Chaplin's earliest film work, particularly the period at the Keystone studios, under the supervision of Mack Sennett, the "King of Comedy".

Times we live in

When Edna and her mother Louise bought their California home in the early 1920s, it was a newer home, which they were the second owners. It was not a foreclosure, but the first owner did leave much of the items they didn't want in the house Edna bought, and the household items became Edna's and Louise's property, which Edna and Louise reused.

In the foreclosure mess of today, banks have the properties totally cleared out in these housing developments that have sprung up across the nation in the last eight years.

People thought they were buying the American Dream, in these brand new neighborhoods, but more like a nightmare (as people wanted more than they can afford and developers and lenders doing anything to make it happen). In many cases, properties were built on easy credit from developers, bought by easy credit by owners, and filled with stuff by easy credit by owners.

This report called Foreclosure Alley, shows what is going on behind the scenes, in just one neighborhood of tens of thousands of neighborhoods, across the country.

The sheer waste and debt created by all sides is staggering. Items in these homes shown in this report, is highly likely still unpaid stuff on home mortgages or credit card bills, like the unaffordable houses people left. more>

Chaplin: A Life, by Stephen M. Weissman

Chaplin: A Life
By Stephen M. Weissman

An in-depth psychological study of the formative childhood experiences of the comedian's early years, Chaplin A Life traces the evolution of a former Cockney slum urchin from an invulnerable child into an invincible screen character.

"A fresh entry in the evergreen field of works devoted to Charlie Chaplin. If ever an artist's life lent itself to psychoanalysis, it's Chaplin's. . . . Weissman lends dimension to the classics . . . and demonstrates Chaplin's ability to transform family heartbreak into film comedies. . . . With lean, energetic prose, Weissman brings this colorful theatrical period to life. . . . He offers vivid sketches . . .and carefully follows the confluence of several artists that lead to the creation of the Chaplin's iconic Little Tramp. Throughout the book, the author caps exhaustive sourcing with an overlay of insightful observations about Chaplin's creative process. Find space on the crowded Chaplin shelf for this perceptive, literate take on the great screen clown."
--Kirkus Reviews

“Weissman uncovers the source for the “shabby gentility” of the Little Tramp, as well as the development of that extraordinary character. En route, he paints an engaging…portrait of how a cinema artist is created and how he practices his craft.” --Publishers Weekly

Another Drawing? Thinking about it...

First off, I like to thank everyone from around the world who entered the Edna Purviance Birthday drawing. Of course, we can have only one winner, but I know this copy of The Sea Gull will be appreciated.

Her story (truly experiencing the growing economy down turn) made me think of having one more drawing, using the names I have gathered for the birthday drawing and extending the entry for one more drawing, maybe for Christmas, but more likely January, as The Sea Gull becomes one year old since it's release. I am still thinking about the details on that and report most likely here around November 10th.

I have several posts to add to the blog of books and releases that some fans have emailed. I plan a post for each starting soon.

UPDATE NOV. 12: I was thinking about having another drawing for the holiday season or around the time of the one year release. Due to the new higher printing cost for our book, I will have to delay doing another drawing at this time. The Sea Gull book will be going up in cover price to $49 January 2nd, or sooner. We do have a good supply, so the January date is most likely.

History Lesson

Remember all the problems Charlie Chaplin had in the states in the late 40s and early 50s? Well, there was a woman today on national television, who is an elected official from the republican's stirring up the same hate that filled the air during those times. It was a sad display, of a growing list.

Misleading information was also displayed this week, as a national conservative radio show, used a flag as something very mysterious, during one of the campaign stops Senator Obama attended in Ohio.

This radio person created a mystery story on air about the flag with an 'O' on it. But he could have known exactly what the flag was, with one quick search on Google.

This 'mystery flag' that he tied some very troubling chat to, with his listeners, is the State Flag of Ohio.
This national radio personality created a story around the flag because it has an 'O' on it, making claims it was something Senator Obama created as a personal flag, which is a total fabrication.

Maybe this national radio broadcaster was just totally ill informed, but it was very easy to find what this flag was, especially with the internet age.

But what is more disturbing, is if this conservative broadcaster knew exactly what this flag was, but used the State Ohio flag to create a misleading story, to feed misinformation to his listeners.

WABC and this broadcaster, should apologize to the State of Ohio for creating a totally misleading and troubling story on their airwaves.

To hear this broadcast this week check it out at this link at Media Matters, a non-profit group monitoring conservative misinformation in the media in the US.

As for the 'mystery flag', here is a link to the State of Ohio to learn more about the State Flag, Bird, Flower, and other items of interest from Ohio.

Charlie would probably see signs of his America of the 1940s and 50s, happening today, including a flash back to the 1930s with failing banks. But that is another story of a great mess we got into...

The Sea Gull - Price Increase?

We have received word that printing cost could be going up. I say could be, since the printing company refuses to say if printing of our current book will go up in price, or stay the same, until the new prices are in place. We just have to wait and see what the printers will be doing and adjust accordingly.

Undignified

I have been watching the election very closely and seeing Senator McCain and Governor Palin, injecting 'fear and hate' into their campaign against Senator Obama, is far below what any intelligent American should stand for.

I think President Lincoln (who came from a humble background himself, but spoke with great dignity, during polarizing times) would be appalled to see this happening.

America is a 'melting pot' of the many, who has to come together as one, to get through the rough road ahead. When people try to divide people deeper, with fear and hate, is exactly what terrorist do.

With great issues of people loosing homes, retirements, health care, jobs, funding for their livelihoods, and many people dying in two wars, it is shameful for anyone to campaign in such a matter, and disgraceful for two people (Palin and McCain) to have lowered themselves to such levels.

Unleashed, Palin Makes a Pit Bull Look Tame
Tuesday, October 7, 2008; Page A03

FORT MYERS, Fla., Oct. 6
John McCain is collapsing in the polls in Florida and other swing states, but Sarah Palin, God bless her, has a solution.

"For me, the heels are on, the gloves are off," she announced at high noon Monday to a group of Republican donors at the Naples Beach Club.

You betcha.

As the donors sipped their bloody marys and mimosas, she added, in a conspiratorial stage whisper, "I'm sending the message back to John McCain also: Tomorrow night in his debate, might as well take the gloves off."

Darn right.

Of course, it's not only gloves and heels; headgear has a role, too. "Okay, so, Florida, you know that you're going to have to hang on to your hats," she said at a morning rally in Clearwater, "because from now until Election Day, it may get kind of rough."

Say it ain't so, Sarah!

Sen. Lindsey Graham, a McCain confidant, told The Post's David Broder that the campaign would "go down in history as stupid if they don't unleash" Palin. Well, the self-identified pit bull has been unleashed -- if not unhinged.

Barack Obama, she told 8,000 fans at a rally here Monday afternoon, "launched his political career in the living room of a domestic terrorist!" This followed her earlier accusation that the Democrat pals around with terrorists. "This is not a man who sees America the way you and I see America," she told the Clearwater crowd. "I'm afraid this is someone who sees America as imperfect enough to work with a former domestic terrorist who had targeted his own country." The crowd replied with boos.

McCain had said that racially explosive attacks related to Obama's former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, are off limits. But Palin told New York Times columnist Bill Kristol in an interview published Monday: "I don't know why that association isn't discussed more."

Worse, Palin's routine attacks on the media have begun to spill into ugliness. In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric's questions for her "less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media." At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy."

McCain's swoon is largely out of his control, the result of an economic collapse that ignited new fears Monday when the Dow Jones industrial average closed below 10,000 for the first time in four years. That's why his lead in Florida polls, which once reached as high as 15 points, has turned into a three-point deficit.

But the campaign has reacted with recriminations (the St. Petersburg Times reported that the Florida Republican Party chairman, after questioning Palin's aptitude, was told that he couldn't fly on her plane) and now Palin's rage.

The angry GOP vice presidential nominee even found a way to blame the market decline on the yet-to-be-enacted tax policies of the yet-to-be-elected Obama.

"If you turn on the news tonight when you get home, you're gonna see that, yah, this is another woeful day in the market, and the other side just doesn't understand -- no!" she said at an afternoon fundraiser at the home of mutual fund giant Jack Donahue. "Especially in a time like this, you don't propose to increase taxes. The phoniest claim in a campaign that's full of them is that Barack Obama is going to cut your taxes."

Of course, Obama never promised to cut taxes for people at $10,000-a-plate lunches in air-conditioned tents on waterfront compounds. And the crowd -- among them New York Jets owner Woody Johnson -- reacted without applause to Palin's Joe Six-Pack lines. After they didn't strike up the usual "Drill, baby, drill" or "USA" chants, Palin, rattled, read hurriedly through the rest of her speech.

The reception had been better in Clearwater, where Palin, speaking to a sea of "Palin Power" and "Sarahcuda" T-shirts, tried to link Obama to the 1960s Weather Underground. "One of his earliest supporters is a man named Bill Ayers," she said. ("Boooo!" said the crowd.) "And, according to the New York Times, he was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, 'launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol,' " she continued. ("Boooo!" the crowd repeated.)

"Kill him!" proposed one man in the audience.

Palin also told those gathered that Obama doesn't like American soldiers. "He said that our troops in Afghanistan are just, quote, 'air-raiding villages and killing civilians,' " she said, drawing boos from a crowd that had not been told Obama was actually appealing for more troops in Afghanistan.

"See, John McCain is a different kind of man: He believes in our troops," she said.

At times, Palin hinted at the GOP campaign's troubles. "It's going to be a hard-fought contest, especially in these swing states, some maybe we would not have expected," she admitted to donors. She allowed that "John McCain and I need to do a better job" of talking about the economy.

At other times, she had troubles of her own, as when she spoke over the weekend of "our neighboring country of Afghanistan" or when she got choked up at the Clearwater rally, saying, "Some of your signs just make me wanna cry," without explaining which ones or why.

But then the gloves came off, the heels came out, and Palin was once again talking about her opponent hanging out in a terrorist's living room.

From: Burlington Free Press

"Palin's applause line goes, "I'm afraid this is someone who sees America as imperfect enough to work with a former domestic terrorist." With a wink and a shrug, Palin all but calls Obama a terrorist.

Then there are Palin's persistent attacks on the news media.

At a Florida rally, Palin attributed her dismal performance during a network interview on questioning by CBS anchor Katie Couric. At that, Dana Milbank of The Washington Post reports, "Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted racial epithets at an African-American sound man for a network and told him, 'Sit down, boy.'"

Anyone willing to incite this kind of fear and harness this degree of hate for political gain has no business on the national political stage, especially as a candidate for vice president of a major political party, let alone serve in high office." - Burlington Free Press
